Back Pain

According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, 75 to 85 percent of Americans will experience back pain once in their lifetime. Of those, 50 percent will have more than one episode within a year. Under the impact of the covid pandemic, some researchers are predicting “The Coming of a Back Pain pandemic” due to working from home, prolonged sitting, poor posture and physical inactivity.

Back Pain Symptoms

Back pain can come on suddenly or slowly, occurring anywhere along the spine from the neck down to the buttocks and hips. It can manifest in many different ways with a broad range of presenting symptoms, including:

  • Limited flexibility
  • Muscle aching, muscle spasms in specific areas of the back
  • A dull aching sensation around the lower back
  • Inability to stand up straight or upright
  • Stabbing or shooting pain, sometimes radiating down one leg or both legs

Causes of Back Pain

Strained muscles, inflamed spinal joints and problems with back structures are common causes of back pain.

  • Strained muscles from lifting heavy objects, awkward movements, and over-activity such as yardwork, house work and recreational sports
  • Discs injuries such as annular tears, disc bulges, ruptured discs or herniated discs
  • Arthritis and spinal stenosis often resulted from deterioration in the cartilage of joints in your lower back
  • Osteoporosis that leads to small fractures in your vertebrae also called spinal compression fractures

Our Minimally-Invasive, Integrated Approach to Back Pain Treatment

In some situations, back pain can be nursed at home and will improve with rest. But when back pain persists and starts to affect daily activities, it’s important to consult a back pain specialist.

At the Spine and Joint Center, located in New Jersey, we have a unique approach to treating back pain. We focus on minimally invasive procedures – which means we try to  protect our patients from the greater risks associated with large invasive surgeries, while offering them an effective solution for their pain and decreased function.

Choosing minimally invasive spine procedures over open surgery has many benefits – you’ll have decreased risk of scarring, avoid  hospital stays, reduced post-procedure pain, a shorter recovery period and a reduced risk of infection.

We Have a Wide Range of Expert Services for Back Pain, Including:

Spine and joint injections with cell therapies, growth factors, exosomes or PRP therapy
Growth factors are delivered via injection to the site of the pain or damaged/injured tissue. The regenerative treatments signal stem cells “repairmen,” which help to direct healing and repairing the damaged or injured tissue. Normally, we deliver around 2 sets of injections.  It takes time for your body to make new  cells such as ligament, collagen, and bone cells. You should see the results of this type of therapy over a 2-3 month period. Learn more about our available injection therapies here, as well as our regenerative and cellular therapies here.

Dr. Noto’s training in both eastern and western medicine means that he knows how and when eastern practices (such as acupuncture) can best supplement western medicine’s treatments for back pain and joint pain.  The treatment aims to not only minimize the pain but target the root cause of the pain to treat it effectively.
