Microneedling

What Is Microneedling and How Does It Work?

Microneedling is a non-surgical technique that uses very thin needles to create minor punctures in the skin, stimulating its natural healing process and increasing collagen production. Because collagen is a protein that helps maintain tissue elasticity and shape, increasing its amount promotes a more radiant, resurfaced look that evens out fine lines.

In addition to improving the texture and volume of the skin, microneedling can also treat issues such as acne, stretch marks, scars, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation by increasing the production of newer, undamaged cells. When the openings resulting from microneedling are paired with the injection or topical application of other skin-healing treatments, the products can be also absorbed to a deeper level, with greater effects.

Aquagold Fine Touch Overview

What Is AQUAGOLD® Fine Touch?

The brand of microneedling we use, AQUAGOLD® fine touch™, allows for optimum penetration by directly injecting a solution from a reservoir attached to its ultra-fine, 24 karat needles. This can range from the injection of growth factors and serums to even dermal fillers and Botox.

What Should I Expect With Microneedling?

A microneedling session generally lasts around 30 minutes, with a recommended 3-6 sessions total for desired results and around a 4 week waiting period between. Because we apply a numbing cream on the targeted areas beforehand, you should expect little to no discomfort from the procedure. During the week prior to your appointment, we recommend that you avoid strong skin treatments like retinol or chemical peels to prevent irritation. Within the 24 hours before, it would be best to avoid powerful sun exposure or tanning beds to avoid hyper/hypopigmentation.

Following your Aquagold session, you should see some redness, sensitivity and swelling for a few days before they eventually fade. For best results, refrain from prolonged sun exposure, exfoliating products, and strenuous exercise for a few weeks, and try not to put on makeup immediately after. You should be able to return to your normal routine immediately afterwards regardless of these precautions.

How Long Does it Take for Microneedling to Work and How Long Does it Last?

Because it takes some time for the skin to heal afterwards, you can begin to see your desired changes from Aquagold around 3-7 days after your first session. However, the skin tightening and enhanced smoothness should be apparent almost immediately following the treatment. Overall, you can expect your results to last around 3-4 months, which can be prolonged with repeated sessions throughout the year. Any Botox or dermal fillers should last as long as they would with normal injections.

What to Consider Before Getting Microneedling

  • It is possible to damage the capillaries with too much microneedling. To avoid this, be sure to space out your microneedling sessions.
  • It is not recommended that you get microneedling when pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have any open wounds, or a history of skin diseases.
  • Other than the temporary redness or swelling, if you experience any more serious side effects like bleeding, peeling, or irritation, contact a physician.
