Spine & Joint Center offers various minimally invasive disc procedures for patients with herniated discs and chronic low back pain as well as sciatica. There are several cutting edge procedures that patients can turn to before surgery, including:
- Spinal Disc and Nerve Decompression
- Cervical and Lumbar Radiofrequency
- Spinal Epiduroscopy
- Endoscopic Rhizotomy
One of our most popular and effective procedures performed to treat and diagnose problems with intervertebral discs and spinal stenosis is AccuraScope®. This procedure bridges the gap between injections (used as part of a pain management program) and major spinal surgery. The entire process lasts about 30-minutes and has an excellent success rate.
AccuraScope® Discectomy and Neural Decompression (D.N.D.)
AccuraScope® is an extremely popular and effective minimally-invasive procedure performed to treat and diagnose problems with intervertebral discs and spinal stenosis. This procedure bridges the gap between injections (used as part of a pain management program) and major spinal surgery. The entire process lasts about 30-minutes and has an excellent success rate.
How does AccuraScope® work?
By inserting a small, flexible scope through a 3-millimeter incision in the lower back and running it up the length of the spinal canal (through a natural opening; the procedure requires no extreme manipulation of the spinal column), physicians can examine the inside of the spine to better understand the condition. Physicians can then use advanced laser technology for healing damaged discs or scar tissue. The laser technology utilized by the device also gives physicians the ability to immediately treat a number of these problems with heat or decompress the spine.
Patients are able to walk directly out of the operating room, and most can return to their normal activities in under a week. Many patients report instant pain relief following the procedure. Others experience relief within two to three weeks.
What spinal problems can AccuraScope® treat?
Your doctor may recommend AccuraScope® as a treatment option for the following spine conditions:
- Ruptured, torn, herniated or bulging disc
- Scar tissue in the spinal canal
- Pinched nerve
- Spinal stenosis
- Problems related to the intervertebral discs
- And more
Procedure Success Rate
In addition to being covered by health insurance, the AccuraScope® procedure has proved impressively successful. “We have an 80 percent success rate, which is phenomenal when you look at medical procedures – especially when you’re talking about the back,” says Dr. Noto. “When you look at traditional spine surgery, a 50 to 60 percent success rate is quite good.”
